A visually spectacular commercial on surfboarding by Samsung

#AnAdvertADay #Day64

Some commercials feel like they are made with the sole purpose of making one’s day better, that which makes you feel better about the world than most other days. This commercial, by Samsung, is one such example.

Created as part of Samsung’s global sponsorship of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour, this ad goes on to beautifully portray the exhilaration, danger and excitement that comes with surfing in the uncertainty of the oceanic waves. It makes a smashing point by saying that each moment spent in the ocean is a new moment, unique in every aspect.

The visual representation of the same ideology is perfectly executed. Each shot feels like the person is undergoing an experience like never before. It takes the viewer on the same journey as the one being shown in the shots.

This seamlessly leads the viewer to the tagline, ‘Every day is Day One’.

There’s no denying that this ad is visually spectacular. Every shot is gorgeously crafted but my favourite part is the soundtrack. It’s beyond perfect. A cover of David Bowie’s ‘Absolute Beginners’ by Angela McCluskey and pianist Paul Cantelon, the song takes the emotional quotient of the advert to a whole new level. The lyrics blend with each shot like they were meant to be.

The ad also includes a mix of beginners and seasoned surfing pros like Kelly Slater, Stephanie Gilmore, Gabriel Medina, Johanne Defay and Mitch Crews. Shots were filmed in Iceland, Fiji, India and even the suburbs of New York.

The tone of this ad is completely different from Samsung’s last one where they took a mighty dig at the iPhone. I prefer this one. Watch this amazing commercial here:

Samsung takes a dig at the Apple iPhone in their new commercial

#AnAdvertADay #Day54

The new advert, called “Wall Hugger”, shown below, aims a dig at the iPhone’s battery life while promoting the Samsung Galaxy S5’s Ultra Power Saving Mode and removable battery. The ad depicts sad iPhone users sitting along walls in an airport as they charge their iOS devices, looking enviously at those wielding Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone.

“Don’t be a wall hugger,” one Galaxy S5 user says in the advert, borrowing a remark from Blackberry CEO John Chen, who back in March also blasted iPhone users as wall huggers.

Samsung isn’t new to the ‘dissing the competition’ space but it’s getting more daring with every new commercial. Due to the cut-throat competition in the industry, most selling points are usually feature centred. A purchase decision for this category is always made post an elaborate comparative analysis amongst various phones. Samsung decided to take matters in their own hands and make the comparison themselves.

You have to give it to them, they sound pretty convincing too. Watch the taunting commercial here:

#Day21 – Samsung Footballers v/s Aliens – ‘The Ultimate Team’

A campaign so massive and powerful that it’s quite literally ‘out of the world’. Samsung had launched one of their biggest campaign to date last November centred around their Galaxy range that wove the FIFA worldcup fever around it.

It announced the launch of a dream team called the #Galaxy11. Over the course of the next few months, they revealed the team members across a series of teaser videos, beginning with Lionel Messi who was appointed the captain of the team. They even got Franz Beckenbauer to play coach. Samsung eventually revealed the team members – Alexander Kerzhakov, Landon Donovan, Wayne Rooney, Iker Casillas, Lee Chung-Yong, Radamel Falcao, Victor Moses, Stephan El Shaarawy, Wu Lei, Oscar dos Santos and Mario Gotze. And last but not the least, to everyone’s surprise, Messi’s great rival, Cristiano Ronaldo was revealed. That’s a first.

Samsung has gone ahead and set up a website for the Galaxy 11 football challenge, where it lists all the members of “the ultimate team,” while reminding visitors this is a promotion for its latest gadgets, including the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy S4 Zoom and Galaxy Gear.

They’ve tied the Galaxy range seamlessly into the campaign as ‘ultimate’ gadgets that are used by the ‘ultimate team’.

The entire campaign unfolds like an epic sci-fi series that involves government officials, secret missions, hi-tech training and well, aliens. As far as I know, this is probably one of the biggest football campaigns undertaken by any brand.

Here is the epic video that reveals all the team members –

This one gives you the jitters and HOW! I promise that you’ll be wishing for somebody to make this into a movie. Last week, they revealed the beginning of the greatest battle ever. The revolution has started.
